Diesel cars are facing intense scrutiny in the UK and that looks like it won’t be slowing down at any point soon.

With issues occurring such as the VW dieselegate in 2015, which uncovered the harmful effects diesel cars have on individuals, the trust in the fuel type is in someway dwindling.

This is reflected somewhat in the market share of new registrations it possesses in the UK, reflected in April this year with diesel registrations falling by 24.9 per cent.

Diesel cars still retain a large market share for the total number of cars on the roads in the UK and are still more suitable then petrol and alternatively fuelled cars for some motorists.

In addition to this, some of the new diesel cars on sale today have emissions parity with petrol cars.

A poll of 2,000 current diesel drivers quizzed them to discover what it would actually take for them to ditch the maligned fuel type.

Around 13 per cent of motorists were willing to tolerate higher VED payments of over £500 a year before they would opt to trade in their vehicles.

Just under a fifth (17 per cent) said that would demand hefty grants or subsidies from eh government to purchase a low emissions car.
