Whilst we would all love to believe that once we have passed our driving test, we are already on the same driving level as Lewis Hamilton, the truth is quite different! Whilst their is no denying that passing your driving test is a huge achievement, this is really just the first step towards becoming a high quality driver.
From a purely technical point of view, you can pass your driving test having never driven a car at night, in adverse conditions (snow/rain etc), on a motorway or travel through country roads and much more. Even after many years of experience, without someone with the appropriate skills to train you, the ceiling to your driving level will remain at a lower level.
With courses including the Pass Plus course, designed to elevate the skills of a newly 
qualified driver to another level, there are other driving courses, known as ‘Advanced Driving Courses’, which will help to maximise the driving ability of almost any driver.
Advanced Driving Techniques
Advanced driving is a safe, thoughtful and methodical way of driving. Advanced drivers are more observant and better at anticipating changes in the surrounding conditions. Because of this they are able to plan their driving to deal with any circumstances.
Drivers completing an advanced driving course will be taught the ability to control the position and speed of their vehicle safely, systematically and smoothly, using road and traffic conditions to make reasonable progress unobtrusively, with skill and responsibility.
Theses skills require a positive but courteous attitude and a high standard of driving competence based on concentration, effective all round observation, anticipation and planning. This will all be co-ordinated with good handling skills. The vehicle should always be at the right place on the road at the right time, travelling at the right speed with the correct gear engaged and can always be stopped safely in the distance that can be seen to be clear.
