WE all know that the cost of running a car is soaring.

And one of the biggest expenses to keep your motor on the road is the price of insurance – Brits are set to pay a record £900 in premiums on average by the end of 2018 just to make sure they’re covered.

But if you’re being driven round the bend by rising costs, then it’s time to take action.

There’s lost of ways you can cut the cost of your insurance – here’s our guide to making sure you get the best cover for the cheapest price.

Never auto-renew: Loyalty doesn’t pay

This is the big one.

When it comes to renewal time, insurers rely on you not bothering to shop around and just accepting the hike in your premium – research last year found that Brits are chucking away £260 a year by auto-renewing.

You can knock potentially hundreds of pounds off your annual bill by not letting your premium auto renew and going with a new insurer instead.

Under new rules brought in last year insurers have to show clearly how much you paid last year so you can see how much more you’ll be paying, so you should know what your extra costs will be.

Use a price comparison sites like MoneysupermarketConfused or GoCompare to find cheapest deal, then contact your existing firm and if they can’t match what you’ve found – switch.
