Thousands of motorists are being captured by a set of CCTV cameras in London breaking road laws. These cameras are capturing around 4,000 drivers daily for a range of moving driving offences. There is a range of ‘moving traffic’ contraventions, which include: using a route restricted to certain type of vehicles (e.g. bus lanes), performing a prohibited left or right turn, failing to comply with a no entry sign, stopping in yellow boxes at junctions and many more. Last year the number of fines increase for certain offences by 30 per cent, revealed a new study.

Certain boroughs in London earn between £93.5million and £187million a year. Figures from Click4Reg revealed that the City of London council issued the highest number of moving traffic PCNs in London, at an astounding 192,841 – the equivalent of 528 penalties each day.

This represents a significant increase of 1,663 per cent increase from April 2016 – March 2017.

In third place was Islington with 78,743 PCNs given by the council to those drivers found guilty of breaking moving traffic laws in the North London borough.

Barnet Council handed out the second highest amount of PCNs totalling 86,578 – a 55 per cent rise year on year.
