According to a number of surveys conducted by the AA spanning a decade, tailgating was by some distance (pun intended!!) the most criticised act in all but one incidence, taking a backseat to talking on a mobile phone in 2014.
In 2017, a majority 26 per cent voted tailgating as the most infuriating part of driving, closely followed by those who could not stand people talking on their phones – some 25 per cent of the group.
Middle lane hogging took third spot with 23 per cent, while drivers that cut across lanes to exit a motorway at the last minute, known as swooping, were slammed with 10 per cent of the vote.
