Did you know that driving with your pet could land you up to £5,000 in fines and affect your car insurance?

While in the car seems fairly harmless and innocuous, it could end up costing you a lot of money.

A survey released earlier this year by uSwitch revealed that drivers are unaware of the rules relating to driving with your pet.

Rule 57 of the Highway Code states “When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves if you stop quickly.

“A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars.”
