The Driving Theory Test is an essential part of getting your driving licence, and it’s the part a lot of people seem to struggle with. But, with thorough revision, you’ll be able to pass your test and be on the road in no time— though the questions can be challenging.
There are only two marks on the theory test — pass or fail. In order to successfully pass your test, you need to correctly answer 83 per cent of the quiz. To pass the multiple-choice section, TopTests confirm that you need to answer 43 out of 50 questions correctly in 57 minutes. The test questions are pulled from hundreds of options, so you’ll never have the same questions on the test.
Hazard Perception is the second part of the theory test and you need to get 44 marks out of 75, but you have to pass both sections to pass the test. To complete the hazard perception test, you need to click the screen when you see a hazard developing to show you were able to spot the danger.
The questions asked in the test are vital for your driving experience — and could even help you decrease your insurance premium. Once you pass your test, first-time drivers are often hit with high insurance premiums, and a black box is often the only way to resolve it. Insurer WiseDriving, for example, gives money back to drivers who stick to the speed limit, don’t brake or accelerate harshly and don’t drive between the hours of 11 pm and 5 am — which is great news if you’re dealing with higher premiums.
GOV.UK urges hopeful drivers to study for the test with the help of books, practice tests and the hazard perception guide. It’s usually worth booking in for your theory test when you start scoring 43 out of 50 on the tests you do at home. Eventually, you’ll have an understanding of the questions that you’re likely to be asked on the test, and you’ll know how to answer anything that comes up.
