We understand that everyone wants to pass their driving test at the earliest possible opportunity and below the team at Surrey Driving Force have identified their top 5 tips to help speed up the process.

Step 1 – Don’t Wait Too Long To Apply For Your Provisional Licence

Did you know that it takes approximately 3 weeks for your provisional licence application to be processed by the DVLA and your licence delivered?

However there is absolutely nothing stopping you submitting your application in by up to 2 months before you turn 17.

By submitting your application at this early stage you will be in a position to start your driving lessons straight after your birthday with no time wasted in the mean time.

Step 2 – Bury Your Head in Theory Books

A mistake made by many people when starting their driving tuition is that they do not start their theory learning until their practical lessons begin.

As well as submitting your provisional licence application early, why not start the preparation for your theory test as well?

By getting an early start on this, you will be able to gain a full understanding of all of the relevant road procedures, signs and markings before you even sit behind the wheel on your first lesson.

This can prove to be highly advantageous because you will be able to concentrate on the practical side of learning to drive rather than being tied up with the theory as well.

An extra added bonus of passing your theory test early is that you will then be in a position to sit your practical test as soon as you are ready rather than having to wait to pass your theory test first.

Step 3 – Multiple Hour Lessons Further Information

We understand that expense plays a very important role in many learner drivers having a single 1 hour lesson per week but it can prove to be far more beneficial to designate two hours of training per lesson if you can afford it.

By extending your tuition to 2 hours per week, there is every chance that you will significantly reduce the overall learning time scale, by allowing time to learn and practice a routine so you can move on to the next topic in the following session.

Step 4 – Practice, Practice, Practice

Having a car insured for your use as a learner will allow you to gain additional practice on top of everything that you learn during your lessons.

This will allow you to progress more swiftly by avoiding repetitive sessions. Manoeuvres in particular are exercises that tend to require plenty of practice to perfect.

PLEASE NOTE – It is absolutely essential though that you must be accompanied by a full licence holder over the age of 21 with at least three years driving experience, and display L plates at the front and rear of the vehicle if you wish to practice away from your driving lessons.

Step 5 – Factor in Practical Test Waiting Times

Thinking ahead can prove to be essential when booking your practical driving test. When your instructor feels you are almost up to test standard, it is advised to consult your local test centre due to the fact that sometimes delays can result in weeks (even months on occasion) of time between booking the test and actually taking it.

Discussing a suitable booking time with your Surrey Driving Force driving instructor will allow for wise use of the waiting period to finish off your training.

By taking into consideration these five points you will be set for passing your driving test in a much shorter period of time, what are you waiting for?!
