“As a student, you have to ask yourself what do you want from a driving instructor. I�ve taken driving lessons with different instructors in the past in the UK (I already hold two driving licences; one from Texas, U.S.) and I have failed in every instance. The instructors always thought that �well enough� was �good enough� and that somehow I was just unlucky. It seemed at the time that I would remain forever paying exorbitant insurance fees and going through the hassle every year of renewing an international licence. Until I met Rob Andrews.
You see, whereas in most US cities the layout is a grid and roundabouts are only seen on Mr.Bean movies and all you have to do is just follow your textbook, in the UK is the opposite. You have to be lucky if street arrangements resemble anything close to the textbook. You need to know how to manage exceptions of all kinds; roundabouts in which you stay on the left lane to turn right, cars parked on the road that make you drive on the wrong lane for longs periods of time and so on.
Rob was spectacular in two counts. Firstly, he had the patience of tolerating a �mature student� with all the bad learning (i.e. including lack of appropriate observations; let�s not blame everything on the roundabouts). Secondly, unlike previous instructors, he did not prepare me just to be �good enough� so that if the passing roulette stops at the right slot I will get my certificate. All the opposite. He prepared me to be in complete control and to have 100% mastery during the test.
The exam was so easy compared to the training that I had received that I had to tell Rob that the exam was more relaxing than taking a lesson with him. This is a big complement. It�s like you go to military training and then going to war is a walk in the park compared to the training camp. I only had two minors and everything else was spot on. First time pass.
If you want to sit driving examinations forever then you may consider other options, but if you want a rigorous, tenacious training system that will make you a better, safer, confident driver who actually gets to rule the test rather than struggle at it, then Rob Andrews is your instructor.”

“I’ve started practising my driving with Robert Andrews a month ago and straight away I could tell he is indeed a very experienced, calm and patient driving instructor. A friend of mine (both her boys passed with Rob first time) thought he was the best in Surrey! Previously, back in Scotland, I had 3 (!) different driving instructors (bless those lovely people!) and a very little success… Rob’s positive attitude managed to reassure me that I actually can drive reasonably well! The “trickiest” point in the whole story is that I’m a teacher myself (I have a PhD and was teaching at uni back in Moscow): I’m very argumentative & always questioning almost everything! My previous driving instructors couldn’t deal with it! Rob is managing just fine;) On top of that all – I’m a mum of 3 kids under 4 yo – so one can imagine how unpredictable and hectic my schedule is! Rob has great understanding of it all! As well as that, he can easily “adjust” to different foreign mentalities, cultures and age groups – which makes him very popular amongst expats! I’m truly enjoying every class with him – he is a very nice gent with a great sense of humour!”

He was an incredible driving instructor very patience, welcoming and friendly. With my previous experience with driving instructors I wasn’t sure what to expect, my prior driving instructor wasn’t reassuring would get angry or rude if I made an error. Whereas, Rob would either make a joke about it or be understanding. He helped me overcome my fear of driving next to lorry’s and narrow lanes whereas beforehand I’d move away from them.
Rob is a character, we could talk about anything while still teaching me how to drive, still keeping it professional. I never felt uncomfortable and was happy to have a bubbly instructor that didn’t cage my own personality. At the same time he knew when and how to put you in the zone to focus. He has multiple ways of explaining things, so if you don’t understand what he means the first time he will tailor everything to suit your needs. I appreciate all the advice he gave me as it was very informative and best of all he believes in you.
One thing I admired about Rob, is when he knew I was ready to take my test and we had covered everything he told me he didn’t think it was worth me having a lesson this week, or that week he’d tell me just so I wouldn’t be spending money for them to be nothing new to learn. He made sure I had a say in what I wanted to learn in each lessons, and tackle the things I wasn’t so confident in. He instilled confidence in me, when I had the worse days driving and still continued to when I had my incredible days driving.I couldn’t recommend him enough, or Surrey Driving Force.”
