The Express recently highlighted the seven most ‘forgettable fines’ relating to driving.

If you are concerned that you may have forgotten these, read on!!

1.Renewing the photocard licence

Driving licences only need to be renewed every decade but failing to do so can land you a £1,000.

Similarly if drivers fail to keep their address information updated, picture up to date and abide by the codes on the rear of the car then they can also land a £1,000 fine.

2.Road tax

Vehicle Excise Duty otherwise known as car tax is a legal requirement of all motorists. Driving an untaxed vehicle could land you a fine of up to £1,000.

3. Off road vehicles

A car that is being kept off the road does not require car insurance or car tax but you do need to register it for a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN). If you don’t, you’ll automatically be fined £80 for not having a SORN.

You could also be prosecuted and fined up to £2,500 if you drive it on a public road anywhere except to or from an MOT or other testing appointment.

It is a legal requirement to insure a vehicle but some drivers do not believe it is necessary if it being kept off the road.

If a car does not have a SORN then it must be insured. failing to do this could land you a fine of £100 which can increase to £1,000 if it goes to court.

Cars can also be clamped, impounded or destroyed.

5. Driving without an MOT certificate

Driving without an MOT certificate can land you a £1,000 fine.

6. Renewing a lorry licence

Lorry, minibus and bus drivers aged 45 or over need to renew their licences every five years. Drivers of these vehicles who are 65 or over need to renew them annually (Northern Ireland has a different renewal process).

7. Seatbelt offences

In most circumstances a seatbelt is a mandatory requirement of British motorists to adhere to.

Failing to wear a seatbelt can risk you up to a fine of up to £500.
