This drink-driving dad drove his baby son 100 miles from Hereford towards Derby without fastening the youngster’s seatbelt.

Jonathan Warham, of Clyde Street, Hilton, was stopped on the A38, near Willington, in March, after officers were concerned with the way he was driving.

The 34-year-old was found to be over the drink-drink limit and he had his 12-month-old son in the back with no seatbelt on.

Warham claimed that he had been to a pub in Hereford for his fiance’s birthday and after “falling out” with people inside, he decided to go back to Derby with his son.

As he made his way back, he realised his son was not strapped in, but carried on driving as there “wasn’t a safe place” to pull over.

Magistrates slammed the father’s behaviour. They fined him and banned him from the roads.

‘Beggars belief’

Diane Redmond, chair of the magistrate bench said: “It is clear that the child in your car wasn’t restrained and it actually beggars belief what you did with your son.

“You say you have no relationship with your father, yet you certainly hadn’t thought of that relationship with your son.

“You say that there was nowhere to stop and that there was not much traffic on the road.
